The MP is concerned about human rights abuses worldwide, specifically in Jammu and Kashmir.
What steps his Department is taking with its counterparts in G7 countries to tackle human rights abuses throughout the world. The questioner further asks if my hon. Friend will use the full weight of his Department, via discussions with the G7 and others, to ensure that these terrible abuses of human rights in Kashmir are put to an end.
Under UK leadership, the G7 has committed to work collectively to strengthen the foundations of open societies and to promote human rights. The Department recognises that there are human rights concerns both in India-administered Kashmir and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. We encourage all states to ensure that domestic laws are in line with international standards, and any allegation—any allegation—of human rights violations or abuse is deeply concerning and must be investigated thoroughly, promptly and transparently.
