Q2 Bell Ribeiro-Addy Lab Clapham and Brixton Hill
Context

The increasing rise of involuntary celibate groups, known as incel groups, which harbour hate towards women and have led to deadly terrorist attacks in the UK and abroad.

Question

Will the Minister commit to having discussions with the Home Secretary to identify, and proscribe where necessary, any forms of this deadly misogynist hate group? Moreover, can she tell us what steps the online harms Bill will take to end this online abuse against women, when it will be introduced and when its measures will take effect?

Answer from Caroline Dinenage

I pay tribute to the hon. Lady for her work in calling out online abuse. The online harms Bill will make clearer the links between what online companies say they do and what they actually do, supporting women to report abuse with appropriate action from platforms. We have also sponsored a Law Commission review on harmful online communications.

Partly answered

Not addressed: The answer does not commit to specific discussions with the Home Secretary or provide concrete timelines for the Online Harms Bill measures.
