I thank my right hon. and learned Friend for his response. Recently in my constituency, the owner of the Delaval Tandoori was physically and verbally assaulted by two men. The community has rallied around to support this family-run business, but they are looking for assurance that the CPS will do all it can to bring those responsible before our courts.
The Crown Prosecution Service will prosecute cases referred by police agencies, and sentences for hate crimes have an 80% likelihood of being uplifted. Any form of hate crime is obnoxious and intolerable in this country, and the CPS recognises its devastating impact.
