Question

What assessment has been made regarding the effect of the covid-19 outbreak on the economic situation in Greater Manchester? The public transport system is vital for its recovery but funding provided to help Manchester Metrolink is inadequate. Given that social distancing will reduce capacity, will the Treasury fully fund Metrolink's operation?

Answer from Kemi Badenoch (Minister for Women and Equalities)

I have been in conversation with the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, and the Treasury is well aware of this issue. At the moment, we have provided £630 million for councils. We have provided some funding to Metrolink and we will continue to explore the issue further.
