A universal basic income is not seen as the best way to deliver social equality because it does not target those who need help most. The Government's response to the coronavirus includes targeted measures that can be quickly delivered through existing systems. While willing to continue debate, flat-rate payments do not account for variable essential living costs and fail to support groups like disabled people and lone parents adequately.
