What steps is my right hon. Friend taking to protect the public from serious offenders, particularly those who commit sexual or violent offences? What additional measures are being considered to address these concerns?
Protecting the public is our primary duty, and changes have been made such that anyone given a standard determinate sentence of seven years or more for serious sexual or violent offences must spend two thirds of their term in prison. We will also be bringing forward a sentencing White Paper with further proposals to deal with these offenders, along with introducing tougher terrorist legislation.
