Sefton Central
Context
The school is facing challenges with poor building conditions, including dampness, heating system issues, roof leaks, and unsafe parts of the building. A surveyor recently expressed extreme concern about these conditions.
What recent representations has he received on the need for a new building at Lydiate Primary School in Sefton? Staff at Lydiate Primary do an excellent job, but the school is damp, heating systems are constantly being repaired, the roof leaks, the basement floods, and parts of the building are unsafe. The Department's surveyor has expressed extreme concern about these conditions. Does he agree no child should attend a school in such poor environment? When will the survey be published, and will the Government commit to providing what Lydiate Primary needs if it is recommended by their own survey?
The Department works alongside local authorities in allocating billions of pounds annually in capital funding. The Government will continue to work with Sefton Council to ensure appropriate funding and response to the report. Schools in his constituency are supported by both the outgoing priority school building programme and the new rebuilding programme.
