I thank the Attorney General for her answer and pay tribute to Jenny Hopkins, the Chief Crown Prosecutor for Wales. I met her recently, and she is doing terrific work. However, the court backlog in Mid Wales—rural Wales—is still quite spectacular. What is the Attorney General doing to deal with this problem?
Data shows that CPS Wales and the local criminal justice board have performed exceptionally well in recovering from covid and court backlogs. Resources were put into recovery, with magistrates court backlog in the CPS Wales area being the first to recover post-covid. The Attorney General personally presented a case at Cardiff Crown Court which resulted in an increased sentence.
