Q1 Partial Answer
Context
The Trussell Trust reports that 40% of universal credit claimants are skipping meals due to budgetary constraints, and winter is approaching.
What recent discussions has the Secretary had with Cabinet colleagues, devolved Administrations, and relevant stakeholders on uprating benefits in line with inflation? The full energy crisis costs have yet to impact them and winter is still to arrive. Is it not perverse if bankers' bonuses are uncapped while pension benefits do not increase at least in line with inflation?
The hon. Gentleman will receive the same answer about when the House will know of the uprating applied to pensions and benefits more generally, including the pensions triple lock. This decision is made by the Secretary in conjunction with discussions with the Treasury and figures will be available at the time of the autumn statement on 17 November.
Assessment & feedback
The specific ask regarding pension benefits increasing in line with inflation was not directly addressed.
