Q1 Direct Answer
Context
The MP is concerned about the lack of female representation in science, computing and engineering fields despite progress in education.
What steps are being taken to encourage more women to enter careers in science, computing and engineering?
We have seen good progress on increasing the number of girls studying STEM subjects at school, but too many women drop out because of caring responsibilities. We recently announced a new scheme to help women into STEM roles after time off for family care.

The MP highlights labour shortages in the construction sector and seeks to increase female participation.
Given labour shortages in construction, can Ministers work with Women into Construction to encourage women into apprenticeships and engineering careers?
My right hon. Friend is suitably encouraged; I speak as an engineer who had an apprenticeship, and know the importance of organisations such as Women into Construction. We will work with them to support women into apprenticeships and engineering.
