What steps has my Department taken to help reduce barriers to global trade for British businesses? In the past two years, 396 barriers have been resolved around the world. The removal of these barriers could be worth £5 billion to businesses across our country. What support is available to promote and help farmers export around the world?
Removing trade barriers boosts exports to new and familiar markets. In the past two years, 396 barriers have been resolved, worth £5 billion to businesses across our country. The potential to deliver export opportunities for British businesses by removing the next 100 trade barriers on our most wanted list is £20 billion. Q2 Direct Answer
Context
The question highlights concerns from North Devon farmers and the National Farmers Union about food imports, focusing on the potential of British food and drink exports in high-growth markets.
Many of my North Devon farmers and the National Farmers Union are concerned about food imports. Given the quality of our British food and drink, what support has your Department put in place to promote and help farmers export around the world?
We see potential for British food and drink exports to grow, particularly in high-growth markets like Asia-Pacific. We work closely with organisations such as the NFU to deliver practical export support. Examples include removing barriers like the ban on British beef in the Philippines worth £375 million annually and expanding our overseas network of trade advisers.
