What recent guidance has the government issued to the police on apprehending illegal motorcyclists? Dangerous motorcyclists are out of control in my area with six year olds riding pillion and people doing wheelies without helmets, resulting in fatalities. The local police require urgent guidance on safeguarding officers when apprehending these riders and a review of section 59 of the Police Reform Act.
I would be happy to look into those specific issues. The police have powers to pursue, even where the rider is not wearing a helmet. Previously in London with mopeds, crime increased when the police did not pursue them, but it decreased once they started doing so. I urge Bedfordshire police to use their existing powers and will review section 59.
