Q2 Partial Answer
Context
Almost a year since the expert independent review, there is ongoing work to better advocate for those persecuted for their religious beliefs. The question seeks confirmation on establishing a special envoy role as promised.
Almost a year after the expert independent review, which highlighted that there is still much work to be done to fully implement the Truro review, can the Minister point out what progress the FCDO has made in better advocating for those who are persecuted for their religion or belief? Not least, will he confirm that, as our manifesto promised and in accordance with recommendation 6 of the Truro review, the role of Prime Minister's special envoy for freedom of religion or belief will now be established in law?
I want to thank my hon. Friend for all her work and commitment in this vital area. Last July we had an international ministerial conference to advance FORB and we always regularly raise cases of concern. On recommendation 6, she makes an extremely good point and the Government are considering it.
