Context
Farmers are struggling with low farm-gate prices, leading to concerns about the sustainability of their businesses. A recent consultation by DEFRA on contractual relationships has concluded.
Whether he has had recent discussions with Cabinet colleagues on farm-gate prices for farmers and crofters in Scotland. The Minister should be aware that his colleagues in DEFRA have recently concluded a consultation on contractual relationships in the fresh produce industry. At a time when 23% of dairy farmers doubt they will continue into 2025, will he impress on his colleagues in DEFRA and DBT that urgent action is needed?
The Government will continue to support the agriculture and food production sector. Scotland Office Ministers regularly attend inter-ministerial groups for environment, food and rural affairs, overseeing changes to price, supply and trade in markets. We will take necessary actions to support this important sector.
