The question concerns the distress caused to families affected by international parental child abduction, particularly a case involving Mr Tom Toolan whose daughter was taken to Poland against a family court order. The case has been ongoing for many years and involves hundreds of other similar cases specific to Poland.
What recent discussions have you had with your Polish counterpart on international parental child abduction? I am concerned about the case of my constituent, Mr Tom Toolan, whose ex-partner took their daughter Rhian to Poland defying a court order. This has been ongoing for many years and there are hundreds of other cases like this specific to Poland. With the recent change in the Polish Government, what further plans do you have to support my constituent?
The case of Tom Toolan has been raised regularly with Polish counterparts due to persistent campaigning by my right hon. Friend. The Government has raised this matter many times, including on 9 April with the Minister of Justice. The Foreign Office remains committed to using every appropriate opportunity to raise issues under the 1980 Hague convention and individual cases like Tom Toolan's.
