Context
In May, the government committed to strengthening its presence in Scotland and across the UK by ensuring that talent from across the country can have a full career in the civil service without having to move to London. The Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister visited Glasgow North as part of this commitment.
What progress has been made on the relocation of civil service jobs to Scotland? Does the Minister agree that having different roles and different levels of positions within the civil service in Glasgow and in Scotland is important so that people can progress their careers while remaining in Glasgow or in Scotland?
I absolutely agree with my hon. Friend that having different roles and different levels of positions within the civil service in Glasgow and in Scotland is important for career progression without relocating. We have committed to ensuring that 50% of UK-based senior civil service jobs are located outside London by 2030. During our visit to the Cabinet Office headquarters in Glasgow North, we met senior civil servants and look forward to returning in the months ahead.
