Deirdre Costigan visited the assessment centre at west Ealing jobcentre where staff reported that assessments often focus on proving disability rather than identifying suitable employment.
Staff at the west Ealing jobcentre told me that assessments focus on proving that disabled individuals cannot work, rather than finding jobs they could do with support. Many disabled people in my constituency want good jobs. What more can be done to help them find work instead of being dismissed?
Disabled people have a right to work, and it is our responsibility to ensure that this right is realised. Our plan includes a new jobs and careers service which will prioritise the needs of disabled individuals, maximising their talents and potential.

Lee Pitcher visited two jobcentres, Thorne and Scunthorpe, and found that they lack essential assistive technology for visually impaired individuals to use computers on site.
I visited two local jobcentres where staff showed dedication in helping people find work. However, these centres lack screen readers and magnification software necessary for visually impaired individuals to utilise the computer resources available. How will the Government ensure that future jobcentres are equipped with such assistive technology?
We will enhance our use of technology to better meet the needs of individuals, including those with visual impairments. We have held a meeting with experts from the all-party parliamentary group on eye health and visual impairment to listen to their suggestions.
