Context
The New Decade, New Approach agreement committed funding for various projects, including a £1 million promise for the Northlands addiction treatment centre in Derry to develop a new facility. The Department of Health has cut core funding and is not guaranteeing the promised money.
What discussions have you had with the Northern Ireland Executive on funding for an addiction treatment centre in Derry, given the New Decade, New Approach agreement from 9 January 2020? People in Derry were assured that Northlands would receive £1 million to build a new facility. However, they've been told their core funding has been reduced and this money is not guaranteed. Does the Minister agree the Department of Health should uphold this international agreement?
With New Decade, New Approach, the UK Government committed funding for various projects aimed at community and reconciliation initiatives. My officials regularly discuss these commitments with devolved counterparts on addiction services. However, it is now up to the Department of Health in Stormont to consider how best to use this funding and present a business case based on their review of addiction services.
