In York, a significant portion of fuel-poor households rent privately. The questioner highlights the issue faced by his mother who had to deal with an ancient heating system in her rented home.
What is being done to ensure that the warm home discount reaches private renting households and ends unfair penalties for many simply for renting?
The experience that my hon. Friend outlines is still all too common in our country, and I know that he continues to raise this issue on behalf of all his constituents. The warm home discount is available to eligible private renting households on prepayment meters, and through the warm homes plan we are taking significant action to increase the minimum energy efficiency standards for the private rental sector.
