Action Requested

The petitioners request that the House of Commons urge the Government to add questions about dental care to the five diabetic risks already checked annually by doctors and require doctors to record patients’ dentists' names in their notes. • Diabetics are at a 3-4 times greater risk of developing periodontal disease.
  • Bringing periodontal disease under control can improve metabolic control and reduce the need for diabetic medication.
  • Doctors are not asking patients about their dental health during reviews due to the lack of a question in the National Institute for Clinical Excellence checklist.
