Yesterday, my right hon. Friend and I published our report on T1DE—a life-threatening condition that affects over a quarter of type 1 diabetics in the UK. It is urgent that we implement these recommendations which would improve lives, save lives, and save money for the NHS. Will my right hon. Friend ensure that the Government act upon them?

Can I start by thanking my right hon. Friend, and indeed the right hon. Member for Knowsley (Sir George Howarth), for their important work on this issue? The Health Secretary will of course consider the report, and the NHS has already been piloting services to support those with this condition.

May I congratulate my right hon. Friend and welcome her to her position as the third female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom? Can I ask my right hon. Friend why does she think it is that all three female Prime Ministers have been Conservatives?

I thank my right hon. Friend for her fantastic question, and I look forward to calling on her advice from her time in office as I start my work as Prime Minister. It is quite extraordinary, is it not, that there does not seem to be the ability in the Labour party to find a female leader, or indeed a leader who does not come from north London? [Laughter.] I do not know what the issue is.

I join the whole House in paying tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore, who was indeed an inspiration to all of us... So, will the Government now give Government time to my Bill to ensure that this necessary change is put on the statute book as soon as possible?
Context
The questioner's ten-minute rule Bill aims to increase the maximum penalty for death by dangerous driving to life imprisonment. The policy has cross-party support but not the Government time.

I am very grateful to my right hon. Friend, and she is absolutely right to campaign for punishments that fit the crime; we are therefore bringing forward exactly those changes in our forthcoming sentencing Bill. Our proposals will, I believe, go as far as, if not even further than, those that she wants by raising the maximum penalty for causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and they will tighten the law for those who cause serious injury by careless driving.
