The surge in the global cost of oil and gas has the risk of pushing up food and energy prices, which is a real concern for my constituents in Bishop Auckland, just as we are turning a corner on the cost of living crisis. Does this not show the importance of ignoring the opposition parties, and of investing in secure renewable energy that we control and backing our farmers to produce the food for our nation, such as those I am hosting here today from County Durham? Will the Prime Minister ensure that both energy and food security are a core mission of this Labour Government?

The Tories and Reform would throw all that away and cling to the failed policy that put everyone's bills up throughout their reign.

Between 2021 and 2023, 41 mental health patients in the care of the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust lost their lives. That led to a damning report from NHS England and calls from my constituents for a public inquiry. This is not just historic; my surgeries are still filled with harrowing stories of failure. Will the Prime Minister join my calls for that public inquiry, to get to the bottom of what went wrong and to rebuild confidence with new, more appropriately sized local NHS mental health trusts that are fit to serve our constituents?

The Health Secretary has met the families affected by these failures twice, I think, this year to hear their stories, and I want to make it clear that what happened to their loved ones is unacceptable. The Health Secretary is currently considering the best way forward so that families get the answers that they deserve. It is right that they receive any update first, but I can assure my hon. Friend that we will provide that update as soon as we are able to do so.

We have had no clarity from the Minister as to the vision for the future. What should people expect? Is it that most people will go private and not be able to access NHS dentistry? Will he or his officials meet me to discuss what we can do to help affected patients?

In my area, NHS dental practices have closed, and another practice has written to patients saying it cannot provide NHS care. While emergency dental treatments are appreciated, primary care dentistry still needs better funding and reform.

It is not only Labour Members who are concerned about this issue; I hope the Minister would be prepared to meet a cross-party group of MPs. The problem is not just the use of the Union Jack but also the risk of importing products that do not adhere to our high animal welfare standards.

I like to buy British because I know that our farmers have some of the best quality and welfare standards in the world, but this is difficult when everything is labelled with Union flags and fake farm names. Can I invite the Minister to meet with members of the Labour Rural Research Group to discuss honest food labelling?

I am happy to meet the rural research group to talk about these important issues, but under UK food labelling rules, food that is not of UK origin cannot be labelled with a British flag and if the primary ingredient is not British, it cannot be labelled as such without pointing out that the primary ingredient is not British.

I know that the people who elect us to this place believe that it is important for politicians to uphold standards, whether at a national or local level. There is growing concern about the public behaviour of the leader and deputy leader of the Reform-led council in Durham, but they have changed the regime for standards, so that a committee of only three, with two Reform members, looks at those issues. Will the Minister consider an independent commissioner for standards for local government to ensure that we can hold our representatives to account?

As we are all sleeping in or children are opening their stockings on this Christmas morning, farmers in Teesdale and Weardale will be up tending to their sheep and cows, and we thank them for that. At the moment only 25% of subsidies go to just 4% of farms. Smaller upland farms have done particularly badly under the transition. Will the Secretary of State meet a delegation of farmers from my constituency in the new year to hear their wisdom?

I welcome the new powers relating to buses, and the new funding for them that the Government are giving, but the problem is that what this Labour Government are giving, our Reform local authority is taking. It has announced plans to cancel the 35A out of Coundon, and the 104, which connects Canney Hill with Binchester and Newfield, and to double concessionary fares before 9.30 am. Will the Minister join me in condemning that Reform council plan, and in calling on our county council to build up our bus services, not knock them down?

What steps her Department has taken to support the delivery of youth services in deprived communities. As a young man who owes as much to youth theatre as to my schooling, I know the importance of youth services. The process of engaging with the Better Youth Spaces Fund has highlighted how stripped bare our youth services are and how few meet the 50% threshold for provision. Would the Secretary of State or one of her advisers meet me to discuss how we can ensure that we have the youth workers in order to bid for funds?

The current model is that those who can afford to outlay some funding then get a taxpayer-funded subsidy, but those who cannot put down those first few thousand do not get that support.

I am deeply concerned about the funding of Howden-le-Wear primary school in my constituency. After years of real-terms cuts, it is now making four teaching assistants redundant. I will write to the Minister on that to seek her support, but the elephant in the room is that the pay of the chief executive of the multi-academy trust of which it is a member has increased £30,000 over the last two years, taking it to £275,000. That is the equivalent of 12 teaching assistants. Which does she think would be better: one CEO or 12 teaching assistants?

I thank my hon. Friend for that answer. I really welcome the work that has been done by Northern Lithium in Weardale in my constituency. Critical minerals will play an increasingly important role in the UK's transition to net zero and in our economy. With the Church of England owning vast swathes of mineral rights across the country, it is really important that there is transparency and that the Church plays an active role in ensuring local populations benefit from the wealth beneath their feet, as part of a just transition. Will she meet me to discuss that?

Northern Lithium Ltd was granted an option over the Church of England's mineral rights in Bishop Aukland by the Church Commissioners in 2023. This investment is expected to contribute to local economic growth as exploration continues.

The village of Copley, in my constituency, is the snowiest in England and we have many pensioners in receipt of the basic state pension who are, none the less, in fuel poverty. They live in cold, stone-built houses.
