Will these changes mean that victims are more likely to report crimes, get outcomes in a reasonable time, and feel less like they are on trial?
Context
Victims of crime have been experiencing long wait times and uncertainty due to the backlog.

I am hugely grateful for my hon. Friend's continual advocacy in the Chamber on behalf of victims. She is absolutely right. If we do nothing, we head to a backlog of 200,000, and many, many victims sitting behind that backlog. If we do as Opposition Members suggest, we head to a backlog of 133,000. That is why we have to do these reforms and why I am very pleased to put forward a Bill that also does more, in particular for victims of sexual crime and rape.

Fourteen years of Tory rule has left many children with tooth decay. A quarter of them suffer from it; those in deprived areas more so than wealthier neighbours just miles away. We are addressing this but need to do more. What further steps are being taken?

My hon. Friend is right; Conservatives failed our children's health with high rates of tooth decay leading to hospital admissions among 5-9 year-olds, a truly shameful state. We provided £82,000 for supervised toothbrushing in schools this year and further funding till 2028-29. Of the 42,000 treatment increase in Derby and Derbyshire ICB area, 19,000 were for children.

What assessment his Department has made of the adequacy of access to NHS dental services? A quarter of children in my constituency have tooth decay, and those in deprived areas are more likely to suffer than wealthier constituents miles away. I am pleased that we are fixing dentistry with urgent appointments and school programmes but need to do more for these children.

The hon. Friend is correct; Conservative rule failed our children's health, with tooth decay as the most common reason for hospital admissions among 5-9 year-olds. We provided Derbyshire county council £82,000 for this year's supervised toothbrushing programme and agreed further funding till 2028-29. By extending the soft drinks industry levy, we protect kids' teeth from decay, emblematic of our shift to prevention in a 10-year plan.

When we make these changes and make it easier for victims to get justice, how will the Government ensure that there is capacity in our prisons to take these criminals?
Context
The Government is working on changes to make it easier for victims of crime, especially women who have experienced sexual violence, to receive swift justice. There are concerns about whether the prison system has sufficient capacity.

We must have capacity in our prisons to deal with the crisis that we inherited, which is why we introduced the Victims and Courts Bill and the Sentencing Act 2026. This legislation will enable us to bear down on the waiting list that is ticking upwards for victims of crime—especially women—who are often at the end of crime that makes them most vulnerable.

I want to raise the case of my constituent from Pinxton. They were awarded a substantial amount of money at an employment tribunal over two years ago for unpaid wages. They have not been able to track down the company since then—it is using a shell address and is not responding to any correspondence. My constituent has paid a private company to try to find the company, but it has got nowhere. It has been two years of hardship and mental health issues, so will the Secretary of State outline what steps are being taken to make sure hard-working people get the money that is owed to them?

A constituent won an employment tribunal award for unpaid wages but has not been able to track down the company due to a shell address.

Workers must receive the awards to which they are entitled. The case that my hon. Friend raises demonstrates the need to strengthen enforcement. The Government will take that up by transferring responsibilities to the new fair work agency. Working with His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs and the Insolvency Service, it will drive compliance and crack down on non-payments. That will help constituents like hers.

Families in Bolsover and across Derbyshire with special educational needs are let down by our dire education services that were ruined by the Tories and now failed by Reform. I met families earlier this year who shared heartbreaking stories of being ignored by the council. Does my right hon. Friend agree that Reform Derbyshire must improve its SEN services and deliver for children?

Yes, I do. The Government take reform of special education very seriously because the system is broken. Reform Derbyshire over-offers and underachieves, and they should get the message my hon. Friend delivered today.

Natalie Fleet mentioned a visit to Brigg infant school in South Normanton, describing it as an excellent school but highlighted that four and five-year-olds are being taught in unfit prefabs. She asked if the Minister agrees they need a proper classroom and would look into this case.

Fourteen years of Conservative rule meant that we all saw child poverty levels rise. One in five children across the country now grows up in scarring poverty. A quarter of all children in Bolsover live in poverty. Can the Minister please set out the measures that this Labour Government will take to end this travesty?

From 1 April 2025, the national living wage will increase by 6.7% to £12.21 per hour for eligible workers aged 21 and over. The Government have set up a ministerial taskforce on child poverty that will report in 2025.
