There is the household support fund, help to claim, and opportunities to pop into the local library for additional support. An extra £500 million is available on top of the £1 billion through the end of this month. The benefits calculator is also out there, along with CAB and local council advice.

My hon. Friend has been a strong advocate for severe disability group work. Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the British Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine have agreed to partner with the DWP to test SDG, aiming to reduce assessment burden where inappropriate.

I am grateful to the hon. Lady for her interest in this issue. Through the White Paper reforms, we have advocated for a number of tests and trials, including one that focuses specifically on better capturing fluctuating conditions. I would be keen to have conversations with her about that. The Government are committed to working with charities and those that are interested, including disabled people, to ensure we get those reforms right.

Absolutely. My hon. Friend and I had a fantastic chat about this issue recently.

I am hugely grateful to my hon. Friend, who is of course a distinguished former Minister for disabled people and whose views on these matters I listen to incredibly carefully. We announced in “Shaping future support: the health and disability green paper” that we will test a new severe disability group, so that those with severe and lifelong conditions can benefit from a simplified process to access PIP, employment and support allowance and universal credit without needing to go through a face-to-face assessment or frequent reassessments. We will consider the test results, once they are complete, to influence thinking on the next stages of this work.

We are committed to ensuring that people can access financial support through PIP in a timely manner. By prioritising new claims, increasing resources and using different assessment channels, we reduced the average new claim process from 26 weeks in August 2021 to 18 weeks in October 2022.

Once again, my hon. Friend demonstrates his in-depth knowledge of electoral issues. He raises a very important point; I will take advice on that and look into whether there is something that we can do.

We are looking at all options to accelerate house building. We have consulted before and decided against raising thresholds; this issue is under review but previous reasons not to proceed remain powerful.

The point about targeting and informing users is important, but no specific commitment was made to implement the suggestion.

We are committed to supporting disabled individuals through Access to Work and Disability Confident schemes, with Access to Work offering financial assistance to cover extra costs for disabled workers. Additionally, the Disability Confident scheme aims to encourage employers to hire more people with disabilities.

The latest figures released on 8 May show that between the first quarter of 2017 and the second quarter of this year, the number of disabled people in employment increased by 1.3 million, meaning that the goal has been exceeded after five years.

We are working to ensure benefits reach those who need them as quickly as possible, but I disagree with the assertion that most claims go to tribunals or reconsideration. The facts were presented last week.

I certainly will. I pay tribute to Becky Maddern, who I too find inspirational. Indeed, I was thinking about her only at the weekend as I visited a playground with my own children and looked at the range of swings and equipment that was available. This is incredibly important because disabled children deserve to play as much as their brothers, sisters and friends. That underlines why our strategy is a very wide-ranging one that goes across the full range of public services and into culture, leisure and play as well, because it all matters greatly.

I certainly will. It will be my passion to deliver all the commitments in the national disability strategy, to support more disabled people to be in work, stay in work and thrive in work. I also thank my hon. Friend for the foundational work he did on this, which I look forward to continuing.
