I recently visited Polypipe in my constituency, which designs, develops and manufactures thermoplastic piping systems from recycled material for civil and infrastructure projects. I understand that the Government and National Highways tend to favour the use of concrete to make ducting for cables over plastic for the road network, despite it being weaker, less resilient and worse for the environment. Could more consideration be given to using recycled materials, such as the plastic manufactured by Polypipe, in the construction of road infrastructure projects to help to achieve our net zero goals?

It is right that councils decide which bus routes they want to support, but I hope with extra moneys provided over the past two years and hopefully into the future, we will provide a long-term solution for these communities.

Humphrey Perkins School in my constituency had carried out all the necessary preparations ahead of its anticipated roll-out of the vaccine prior to the autumn half-term, but on the day before, it was informed that the roll-out would be postponed until 30 November. Please could my hon. In late September, the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust school age immunisation service devised an updated schedule for covid-19 and flu vaccinations comprising the remaining schools to be visited. This was to address some operational challenges, reduce the need to postpone sessions at short notice and offer the best experience to the young people receiving vaccinations. All affected schools were notified as soon as possible. As my hon. Friend said, the service will be attending Humphrey Perkins on 30 November, when eligible students with consent will be offered both the flu and the covid-19 vaccines.

Welcoming steps taken to support local businesses and communities during recovery from the pandemic, what additional measures are being implemented to ensure that business improvement districts (BIDs) receive necessary resources as restrictions ease?

The UK is easing lockdown restrictions, allowing shops to reopen. Local businesses have been supported by various grants and funds.

BIDs play a crucial role in high street regeneration, and the setback experienced due to lockdowns makes them even more important. Legislation has been passed to extend the operation period of BIDs that were scheduled to re-ballot this year until March 2021, and an emergency support fund of £6.1 million is available for these entities. Notably, Love Loughborough BID in Jane Hunt's constituency will receive £12,747 from this fund.

The Government have recently published the safer transport guidance for operators, which is very welcome indeed, but I wonder whether the Minister could set out what steps are being taken to ensure the financial viability of bus services while maintaining social distancing.

I can tell my hon. Friend that we are working urgently to provide further support to bus operators so that they can run service provision as people return to work and at the same time observe social distancing.
