Residents in my constituency and across Sandwell benefit from the lowest council tax in the west midlands and investment in new leisure centres and parks. All our libraries are kept open. Sandwell is third-best for fixing potholes and has expanded breakfast clubs and free school meals, ensuring cheaper school uniforms for children. Does the Prime Minister agree that this is down to well-run Labour-led Sandwell council and changes brought by this Labour Government opposed at every opportunity by Tories and Reform?
Context
Residents in Smethwick have folded 1,000 paper cranes to recognize the diversity of their community. Sandwell has the lowest council tax and benefits from investments in leisure centres, parks, libraries, pothole repair, breakfast clubs, free school meals, and reduced costs for school uniforms.

I thank my hon. Friend for his work to give every child in his constituency the best start in life. This Government have done more than any other to lift children out of poverty. They have passed laws to deliver more rights at work, build new homes, save British steel, clean up waterways, secure borders, deliver record funding to the NHS and so much more—change delivered by Labour and opposed by the Tories and Reform.

We are working closely with international partners to support the African-led response. We acted early to allocate an initial £26.9 million to fund the immediate response in the DRC and Uganda and to support the World Health Organisation and Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in co-ordinating the regional response. I am pleased to announce to the House a further £51.8 million, which takes our total funding to £78.7 million. We are also taking a leading role internationally. I met Dr Jean Kaseya, the head of Africa CDC, in Addis Ababa last week, and I will discuss this issue with ministerial counterparts ahead of the UN General Assembly later this month.

In the King's Speech, the Labour Government made it clear that our key priorities are national security, economic security and energy security. Those three priorities have one thing in common: the promise of jobs for communities across the whole UK. The defence growth deal stands to unlock some 50,000 new jobs across the UK, including 500 well-paid skilled jobs in Wales. Will the Secretary of State tell the House how defence spending is having a positive impact in Wales?

I am proud that our defence growth deal, backed by £50 million of UK Government investment, will transform our nation into a centre for defence innovation, creating highly-skilled jobs and driving economic growth across the country. Can I first take this opportunity to wish a very happy Vaisakhi to the Sikhs around the world who are celebrating it? Residents in my Smethwick constituency are benefiting from the investment in and changes to the NHS introduced by this Labour Government; the benefits include shorter waiting times and shorter ambulance waiting times. Can the Secretary of State tell us what progress has been made in implementing the Government's 10-year plan for the NHS?

As I reported only this morning on BBC West Midlands, we are bringing down waiting lists in his area and across the west midlands, and we will make further and faster progress; that is what a Labour Government do.
