Could the Minister give us an update on the Government's approach to the dire humanitarian situation in Afghanistan? We continue to work with international partners to limit illegal drugs and migration. We provide lifesaving assistance and ensure 50% of beneficiaries are women and girls, despite attempts by Taliban to prevent support.

We continue to work with international partners to limit illegal drugs and migration from Afghanistan. We provide lifesaving assistance and ensure 50% of beneficiaries are women and girls, despite Taliban attempts to prevent support. We aim to reach target set by Government.

Does my hon. Friend accept that reserve officers join in order to have opportunities to deploy and train, commanding in formed units? Why does the future soldier narrative prioritise individual augmentation over deploying formed bodies for overseas roles short of all-out war?

The MP is concerned about the future soldier programme's prioritisation of individual augmentation over formed units for overseas deployments.

I agree with my hon. Friend that reserve officers seek to deploy in formed units, and we are in agreement with that. That is why it is in black and white in the future soldier programme. We should not deny the opportunity for individuals, whether they are officers or enlisted people, to deploy on operations or training to gain valuable experience.

How many British Islamic State prisoners—men, women and children—are being held in northern Syria, and are there any plans for them to come back to the UK? If not, what assistance are we providing to the Kurds to secure them, and indeed the other prisoners, because I understand that many of them are escaping?

Concerns about British individuals involved with ISIS held in Syria and potential risks of them escaping.

Travel advice has always been against all travel to Syria. There is no consular support. We do not have a diplomatic presence. For those reasons, sadly, we do not have a firm number. However, I invite my hon. Friend to discuss privately the security issues and very difficult situation of some of these cases with the Minister for the Middle East and North Africa.

The UK supports the UN's efforts to resolve the conflict and prevent famine in Yemen.

The UK supports the UN's efforts, engaging regularly with all parties. The Minister spoke to Mohammed Abdul-Salam about the peace process and Safer oil tanker on 18 October; the Foreign Minister was contacted regarding progress on 6 October; and a P5+ ministerial meeting co-hosted by the Foreign Secretary encouraged full engagement with UN proposals on 17 September.

The humanitarian situation in Yemen is deteriorating, with 53% of the population unable to afford food. The government has committed £200 million in aid for this year.

The humanitarian situation in Yemen is dire, with 53% of the population unable to afford food. The UK is rapidly disbursing £200 million-worth of aid this year. The Government fully supports UN special envoy Martin Griffiths' efforts for a nationwide ceasefire and formal talks.
