The Member was thrilled to hear that Boccard will be opening a new nuclear manufacturing facility in Deeside. Does the Minister agree that north Wales has the skills and sites to realise the economic potential of our nuclear industry? Two Labour Governments are ready to deliver on this.
Context
Boccard is opening its new nuclear manufacturing facility today, which will support jobs and create new positions.
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Wales (Dame Nia Griffith)
Absolutely; I agree with my hon. Friend. I am very pleased indeed today that Boccard is opening its new nuclear manufacturing facility in Deeside. This is an example of the UK Government and the Welsh Government working together to onshore our nuclear supply chain, thus safeguarding 59 jobs in this instance and creating in excess of 150 new positions.

One of my constituents was outed and then dismissed from the RAF when he was just 21, an experience that affected his whole life, so I was very pleased to hear that last week his application for compensation under the LGBT financial recognition scheme was accepted and that he is due to receive his payment shortly. It is great to hear that the Labour Government are getting on with the job for these veterans who were so badly dealt with by the state, but can the Minister give an update on the progress of the scheme?
Context
The question relates to improving support for LGBT veterans, specifically referencing a constituent who was outed and dismissed from the RAF at age 21. The case highlights the need for financial recognition and compensation for those affected by past discriminatory practices.
The Minister for the Armed Forces (Luke Pollard)
I thank my hon. Friend for raising the issue and that case. It is vital that no matter who you fall in love with, there is a place for you in our armed forces. I am pleased to announce that since the LGBT financial recognition scheme was launched on 12 December 2024, we have now made a total of £1 million in payments to the dismissed or discharged, to people who are terminally ill, or the over-80s who were dismissed or discharged due to their sexuality. Some 964 applications for non-financial restorative measures have been received and are being processed. The recruitment of the independent panel and appeals board is complete, so payment for the LGBT FRS impact payments can begin shortly.

Welsh universities, including Bangor University, face very real challenges as a direct result of policies introduced by the last UK Government. Will the Minister update us on conversations that her Department is having with the Welsh Government around higher education in Wales?
Context
Welsh universities are facing challenges due to policies introduced by the previous UK Government.
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Education (Janet Daby)
My hon. Friend is aware that education is devolved and that the Welsh Government are responsible for education policies in Wales, including those covering universities, but I assure her that the Department for Education engages with the devolved Government at ministerial and official levels on a range of areas covering education and students.

My constituent Lesley suffers from multiple health conditions, including epilepsy, and lives with the constant risk of seizures. Her family rely on broadband to use the landline, but recently the broadband went down for several days, which meant she was completely unable to make calls because of the ongoing problems with mobile coverage in Llandudno. Will the Minister agree to meet me to discuss how we can safeguard vulnerable customers such as Lesley and address the issues in Llandudno?
Context
Lesley, a constituent in Llandudno with multiple health conditions including epilepsy, relies on broadband for connectivity but has experienced prolonged outages affecting her ability to make calls due to poor mobile coverage.
The Minister for Data Protection and Telecoms (Chris Bryant)
I think my hon. Friend also has a problem at one of her universities, which we are going to try to deal with as well. She has written to me, and I will write back as soon as possible, but perhaps we could short-cut that with a meeting. I am conscious that, for medical conditions, the resilience of someone’s connectivity is just as important as the day-to-day coverage.

How are she and her colleagues working with the Welsh Government to improve health outcomes for people in Wales? What specific actions are being taken?
Context
There is ongoing collaboration between the UK and Welsh Governments to address health issues, including cutting waiting lists.
The Secretary of State for Wales (Jo Stevens)
Collaboration is happening between both governments in a constructive manner, sharing best practices. A ministerial advisory group has been established by the Welsh Government to plan NHS reforms aimed at improving performance and reducing waiting lists, drawing on expertise from both Wales and England.

Pupils in my constituency are benefiting from pioneering workshops that are designed to increase awareness of sexual violence and misogyny through a project called “Don't Steal My Future”. Does the Minister agree that raising awareness of sexual violence in an age-appropriate way is vital to keeping young people safe? If so, will she come with me to meet the team at the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre North Wales?
Context
Local projects such as the Don't Steal My Future initiative are vital in raising awareness about sexual violence and misogyny among young people.
Jess Phillips
The simple answer is yes, I do agree. As somebody who has written and delivered such programmes in schools, I know that brilliant work is going on across the country in local authorities, multi-academy trusts and more widely, with voluntary sector organisations doing a lot of the work. I would be glad to explore with officials the best way to learn from those who work with children and young people, because we have to work out what will work in our schools and then make sure that we put it out everywhere.

What steps she is taking with Cabinet colleagues to tackle violence against women and girls. The government has been criticised for not doing enough to address this issue, despite the increasing number of reported cases.
Context
The government is under pressure to tackle rising violence against women and girls.
Jess Phillips
This Government are committed to using all the levers at our disposal to deliver our mission to halve violence against women and girls. We have already announced our intention to embed specialist domestic abuse advisers in 999 control rooms, launched pilots for the new domestic abuse protection orders, and implemented a duty on employers to anticipate occasions when sexual harassment may occur and take responsible steps to prevent it.

Passengers on the north Wales coast are being let down by Avanti's poor performance. This issue affects passengers and businesses, hampering economic growth in my constituency of Bangor Aberconwy. What specific discussions has the Secretary of State had with our right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport on this issue?
Context
Avanti trains are performing poorly, affecting passengers and businesses in Bangor Aberconwy. This is hampering economic growth.
Nia Griffith
My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State met the Transport Secretary last week to discuss rail connectivity, including the performance of Avanti. Ministers and officials are holding regular performance reviews with Avanti and Network Rail, monitoring compliance with contractual obligations, aiming for better services for constituents.

What recent discussions she has had with Cabinet colleagues on supporting economic growth in Wales. The Government's No. 1 mission is to kick-start economic growth across the United Kingdom. Wales can be at the forefront of that mission, with renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, our vibrant creative sector, fintech and the life sciences each offering huge opportunities to create jobs and drive growth.
Context
The question arises from the government's mission to support economic growth across the UK, focusing on opportunities within Wales.

Important Context
- - Ministers answer questions rather than asking them, so have different activity patterns
- - Activity quantity doesn't measure quality or effectiveness of representation
- - Some MPs focus more on constituency work than parliamentary questions
- - Newly elected MPs will have less parliamentary history
