The Government is committed to regulating the heating oil sector for the first time to protect households from volatile global fossil fuel markets. The Competition and Markets Authority's (CMA) report identified gaps in consumer protections compared to those available to gas and electricity users. The Government will strengthen consumer rights, establish a stronger protection framework, and take practical steps to improve existing codes of practice, promote access to dispute resolution mechanisms, and increase consumer awareness of available support. The aim is to create a fairer, more resilient, and trusted heating oil market prioritising consumer protections while preserving competition and security of supply.
