On 22 July 2026, the UK’s Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) concluded a subsidy investigation on imports of US hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) biodiesel. The TRA recommended imposing definitive anti-subsidy measures with fixed duties between £257.80 and £266.68 per tonne. However, on 10 September 2026, the Government decided not to impose these measures due to the significant costs to downstream businesses, importers, and consumers, which outweighed the benefits for UK producers and upstream businesses.
