The Government is announcing structural changes to tackle entrenched inequality by closing the Social Mobility Commission and establishing a new Class Unit within government to focus on socio-economic disadvantage. This reform will redirect resources and enhance ministerial accountability, embedding a focus on socio-economic inequality into the heart of government and implementing the Socio-Economic Duty within the Equality Act. The move aims to break down barriers to opportunity and support disadvantaged communities.
