The House of Commons Administration provides training for Members and their staff on domestic and sexual abuse casework, including a day-long training course on domestic abuse, human resources sessions on abuse awareness, and an e-learning module on safeguarding. Members can access support and resources through these courses. The Commission is keen to develop the training offer based on suggestions from Members.
As a Member of Parliament, I support vulnerable women and girls who have experienced sexual abuse, sexual violence, rape, stalking, coercive behaviour and other forms of violence. These cases require knowledge of legal frameworks, safeguarding and trauma to safely support individuals. I am grateful for the guidance provided by our local rape and sexual abuse service, but not all Members have such resources. I ask for guidance on responding to rape and sexual abuse casework and for more specialist and trauma-informed training.
