Government Statement
The conflict in the Middle East has seen Iran fire over 900 missiles and over 3,000 drones across 13 countries. The UK is supporting British nationals in the region, providing defensive military support to partners against Iranian strikes, and engaging in intensive diplomatic activity. Over 100,000 Britons have been helped to return home from the region. The UK has deployed additional defence assets including Typhoons and F-35s across the eastern Mediterranean and Gulf states. We are also providing humanitarian aid to Lebanon. The government is working on a negotiated agreement to contain future threats from Iran’s ballistic missiles, drones, proxies, and nuclear programme.

Shadow Comment
The Opposition acknowledges the efforts of British armed forces in protecting UK interests and nationals in the Middle East. However, it criticises the government for not providing sufficient support to allies like Bahrain under the C-SIPA agreement and failing to designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organisation. It also questions the lack of clarity on steps being taken to cut off financial flows funding Iran’s regime and whether Britain is aligned with US actions.
