Gavin Robinson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to discuss Bombardier's recent announcement of job cuts in Belfast, affecting 1,080 jobs and impacting thousands more across Northern Ireland. He highlighted that Bombardier employs 5,500 people directly in east Belfast and has a significant presence throughout Northern Ireland, contributing £1.1 billion annually to the local economy. Robinson emphasised the importance of the C Series aircraft project developed by Bombardier, which is innovative but faced financial difficulties due to delays and cost overruns. He praised government support for the company, noting visits from Ministers and investments amounting to £2.6 billion since 1989. Robinson called on the Minister to explore further ways to support Bombardier, including aiding export efforts and addressing planning issues like those at London City Airport.
