The hon. Member for Bristol East raised concerns about the eligibility date for the coronavirus job retention scheme, noting that while Government support packages have helped many people, some are still falling through the gaps and not receiving necessary assistance. She requested that the National Audit Office consider examining these schemes to determine whether they represent the best use of public money or if lessons could be learned for future emergencies.
The hon. Member for South Norfolk acknowledged the hon. Lady's concerns and confirmed that the National Audit Office is scheduled to publish a report shortly, which will summarise Government actions on covid-19 up until now. He stated that this initial report will be followed by further work assessing the effectiveness of spending large sums committed to healthcare and economic impact mitigation.
