Victoria Atkins acknowledged the severity of the crime situation in West Bromwich West. She highlighted that the Government has pledged to recruit an additional 20,000 police officers across England and Wales, with £620.8 million allocated for West Midlands Police in 2020-21, representing an increase of 8.7%. Atkins noted that forces will receive funding for new officers, including cars and uniforms. She emphasised the Government’s commitment to community-based policing and neighbourhood crime prevention, mentioning a £25 million safer streets fund aimed at improving street lighting and home security in areas affected by acquisitive crimes. Furthermore, she announced additional serious violence funds for West Midlands Police, including a provisional allocation of nearly £5 million and an ongoing funding commitment of £35 million to the West Midlands Violence Reduction Unit. Atkins also offered to meet Shaun Bailey and his constituents in their area.
