Following Storm Arwen, the government has provided support to affected areas in northern England and Scotland. The storm caused widespread disruption with some residents without power for over a week. Visits were made by ministers to Durham and Aberdeenshire to assess damage and communicate directly with constituents. Network operators are providing daily updates and compensation up to £140 per day is available. 99.8% of affected homes have had power restored, but approximately 1,600 remain without electricity in the Wear valley area. The minister emphasised that efforts are focused on restoring power as soon as possible.
