Government Statement
A senior official from the Ministry of Defence lost classified documents early last week, which included a paper marked “Secret UK Eyes Only”. The incident was self-reported on Tuesday 22 June. A member of the public found these papers at a bus stop in Kent and handed them to the BBC. The MOD launched an investigation into the actions of individuals involved and underlying processes for printing and carriage of papers within Defence. Access to sensitive material for the individual responsible has been suspended until further notice, while the findings remain confidential pending completion of the investigation.

Shadow Comment

John Healey
Shadow Comment
Concerned about national security breaches involving classified MOD documents, including personal details of forces personnel and assessments on infantry battalions. Questions the level of “UK Eyes Only” classification, whether espionage has been ruled out, and if allies were informed immediately. Requests a full report from the investigation to be published for public reassurance.
