Government Statement
The minister condemned the Iranian regime's sentencing of a protester to death, describing it as an act that the UK Government utterly condemns. He highlighted that over 14,000 people have been detained and more than 300 deaths have occurred during protests, including 43 children. The Minister expressed concern about the increasing frequency of death sentences and called for a UN investigation into the protests. He announced sanctions against Iranian security officials involved in violent crackdowns and stated that the UK is working to remove Iran from positions of responsibility in multilateral forums.
