As Rupa Huq highlighted, health inequalities are prevalent in north-west London, with significant disparities in life expectancy, income, ethnicity, diabetes rates, heart disease prevalence, mental health conditions, and cancer incidence. She emphasised that socioeconomic status heavily influences one's health outcomes. Quoting Public Health England (2017), she argued for equitable opportunities to lead a healthy life regardless of where one resides or who they are. The MP criticised the government’s U-turn on their 2021 commitment to publish a White Paper on health disparities and highlighted the pressing issues in north-west London such as long waiting lists, demographic shifts, ageing population, Brexit impacts, cost-of-living crisis, and long-COVID effects.

Government Response
Neil O'Brien acknowledged the extensive range of health inequalities discussed by Rupa Huq. He highlighted that between 2010 and the end of this Parliament, healthcare spending would increase by 42%, adjusted for inflation, hiring over 37,000 more NHS doctors and 52,000 extra nurses. The Minister detailed increased funding and resource allocation to primary care and public health initiatives aimed at tackling disparities such as drug dependency, mental health, obesity, smoking rates, and early life intervention programmes. He emphasised the government's efforts in addressing social determinants of health through institutional changes like creating the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) and implementing measures to improve social housing quality. The Minister also outlined specific initiatives such as a £900 million investment in the drugs strategy, increasing access to naloxone, expanding family hubs, and various health check programmes aimed at preventing major conditions like heart attacks, strokes, and dementia. He mentioned plans for a major conditions paper and ongoing efforts to address cost-of-living issues through energy bill support schemes.
