Government Response
Chris Philp thanked Nickie Aiken for bringing attention to Hajj fraud and highlighted the government's commitment to tackling all forms of fraud, including online fraud. He outlined the £100 million investment in law enforcement capabilities and the establishment of a new national fraud squad with 400 specialist investigators. The Minister also mentioned steps to replace the Action Fraud service and the agreement on an Online Fraud Charter with major tech companies to combat fraudulent activities. Philp emphasised the importance of public awareness and vigilance, alongside legal measures, in preventing such crimes.
