Government Response
In answer to the hon. Gentleman’s last question, unfortunately my answer is no; I will not be doing that. For a moment I thought that the pantomime season had come early, but I encourage him not to give up his day job. The hon. Gentleman raised the matter of statements, which arises from time to time. The Government are often in a lose-lose situation: if we do not come to the House with statements, Members demand to know what we are going to do, but if we do bring forward statements, including written ministerial statements, we are criticised for there being too many. We understand the challenges facing local authorities as a result of higher demand and the cost of providing critical services, which is why we are addressing the question of fair funding and bringing in the first multi-year settlement in 10 years. Acknowledges the need for progress on restoration and renewal of Parliament, announces a report due early in the new year. Supports SEND funding and investment, criticises local council's approach to supporting vulnerable families. Endorses Sandown Park racecourse’s importance throughout the year. Offers debate opportunity regarding postal workers’ efforts during festive period. Acknowledges the link between animal cruelty and domestic abuse, invites raising points on violence against women strategy. Congratulates Ava for winning the constituency Christmas card competition. Confirms action to address parking tickets issued unjustifiably. Promises to assist Portsmouth North with playground refurbishment funding access. Supports Sycamore Tree project and restorative justice efforts. I thank my hon. Friend for raising such an important case. Integrated care boards have a responsibility to commission services to meet the needs of those in their care, so I will refer the case to the Department of Health and Social Care, and will ensure that my hon. Friend gets a meeting if she wants one to see what progress can be made on these matters. We are committed to improving the lives of those who have rare diseases. The Government take this important matter seriously, and through the safer streets summer initiative, we applied additional resources. Thanked and acknowledged various charitable activities including Rotary clubs, Wokingham in Need, NOAH charity, and the Hopkins Brothers Tractor Run. Discussed the Government's approach to antisemitism, mental health support for children, NHS care during flu outbreaks, and rural bus services. Sir Alan Campbell
