Virginia Crosbie highlighted the sudden closure of the grade I listed Menai suspension bridge, which was critical for Anglesey's connectivity to mainland Wales and beyond. She noted that the Welsh Government closed the bridge on short notice without contingency plans or warnings, impacting local students, residents, businesses, and hauliers using Holyhead port. The deputy minister for climate change acknowledged a concern about hangers' resilience but only imposed a weight restriction in June 2022, three years after the initial review. Crosbie expressed concerns about increased traffic jams, lost business revenue, healthcare delays, and transport inefficiencies due to the closure. She urged the Welsh Government to address long-term solutions for robust infrastructure and connectivity, as highlighted by Sir Peter Hendy’s Union Connectivity Review.
