Government Statement
Early last Friday morning, Israel launched extensive strikes across Iran targeting military sites, the uranium enrichment facility at Natanz, key commanders, and nuclear scientists. In response to this crisis, the UK has advised against all travel to Israel and is urging British nationals in Israel to register their presence with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. The situation remains fast-moving, with more strikes expected in the days ahead. Britain was not involved in these strikes but supports Israeli security by pursuing negotiations through diplomacy with Iran. The Government has taken firm action against Iran's destabilizing activities, imposing sanctions and cancelling bilateral agreements due to its nuclear programme violations as reported by the IAEA. The Prime Minister chaired Cobra meetings and engaged with global leaders at the G7 summit to discuss de-escalation strategies. Diplomatic efforts continue, with the Foreign Secretary engaging in numerous conversations with counterparts from various nations to prevent further escalation.
