How the Debate Unfolded
MPs spoke in turn to share their views and ask questions. Here's what each person said:
Government Statement
Today I am pleased to announce that the UK is investing in the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, bringing hope and aid to those in desperate need. This fragile ceasefire, brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the US, aims to end fighting and release hostages. The UK has been at the forefront of humanitarian efforts since coming to office, overturning funding suspensions and boosting support. More than 200,000 food parcels have already been dispatched to distribution points in Gaza. Today's announcement includes £17 million for aid and £2 million for World Bank infrastructure projects, bringing our total commitment to £129 million this financial year. The UK is supporting Jordanian air force helicopters landing in Gaza with medical supplies, but more action is needed to open road routes and allow essential items like tents and medical equipment. The Knesset legislation risks impeding progress; Israel must facilitate humanitarian assistance. We are working with partners to support recovery and reconstruction efforts, ensuring proper coordination and access for aid delivery.

Question
Since the ceasefire, there has been an increase in killings and atrocities in Jenin. On Saturday, Israeli forces were responsible for killing a two-year-old girl. Will the Minister explain what actions this Government have taken to put pressure on Israel to prevent ongoing atrocities in the West Bank?
Minister reply
The UK Government have been clear about settler expansion and violence reaching record levels. The Israeli Government seized more of the West Bank in 2024 than in the past 20 years, which is completely unacceptable. The matter has been raised by a number of ministerial team members, including the Foreign Secretary who announced new sanctions targeting illegal settler outposts and organisations supporting violence against communities.
Shadow Comment
Priti Patel
Shadow Comment
The shadow Foreign Secretary questioned the Minister's approach, stressing that every hostage must be released and humanitarian access ensured. She requested a breakdown of UK aid sent to Gaza and its impact measurement, inquiring about whether £17 million is new funding or part of previous allocations. Concerns were raised over UNRWA staff infiltration by Hamas and the need for full implementation of reforms. The shadow also urged discussions with regional neighbours on reconstruction efforts and governance of Gaza post-conflict, emphasising the importance of ending Hamas's reign of terror. She highlighted the role of Iran in Middle East instability and sought clarity on UK strategy towards Tehran.
